Royal Society of Ulster Architects and JP Corry Launch #MyBelfastIdea Design Competition

25 September 2018

RSUA, in partnership with JP Corry, is delighted to launch the #MyBelfastIdea Design Competition for Early Career Architects 2018.

This year’s competition challenges Early Career Architects to react to the fall-out from the devastating fire at Bank Buildings/Primark in Belfast city centre by generating ideas for a temporary intervention or interventions to the built environment which will help attract people to the surrounding area. Amongst other things, the competition will explore what role architecture can play in helping to respond quickly to major events like this.

The prize is a luxury trip to Paris for two with a value of £1,000 courtesy of JP Corry but all entrants will benefit from the raised profile arising from the showcase at Architecture Night and through the media.

The initiative follows on from last year’s successful Belfast Flare Design Competition which was won by Donald McCrory and OGU (Rachel O’Grady, Chris Upson) Architects. Their structure Built:East has now received planning permission, building control approval and we are in the final stages of securing additional funding. More news on that will follow soon

The #MyBelfastIdea Design Competition 2018 is open to any architect either living or born on the island of Ireland who has been actively in work as an architect for less than 15 years, consecutively or otherwise.

For more information on the competition’s purpose, eligibility, brief and submission requirements please read the short #MyBelfastIdea Design Competition overview.

Wider engagement

In parallel with the competition, RSUA will seek the public’s views on what they want for the area and beyond via social media using #MyBelfastIdea. This is open to anyone and we encourage all architects to throw in their ideas starting from tomorrow. We also are looking at an incentive for architecture students to get involved.

Register today

Registration is now open and submissions must be received by 12th October 2018. To register, please email Julia Leaker (Julia@rsua.org.uk). You will be issued with a unique registration number.
