In 2008 JP Corry were approached to find a solution to an unusual problem. A new Sewerage Pumping Station was being cinstructed beneath Landsdowne viewing point in Portrush, as part of the £26m North Coast Sewer Improvement Scheme. After a timber door was installed on the seaward face of the building, by the first weekend it was reduced to matchwood by the stormy seas. We then received a brief to provide a replacement door which would withstand wave action and water borne debris. In addition to this the door had to be watertight but allow free ventilation for the electronic switch gear inside. Then to increase the challenge the door must have a cat flap to allow access for emergency power cables, should there be a power failure.
JP Corry were able to offer a Technocover Ultrasecure double skinned twin leaf steel door with 140 micron galvanised coating to resist both physical and corrosive wave action whilst maintaining a watertight finish in what is required to be a frequent accessed door.
The end result so pleases the specifying consultants they were happy to declare that "should a future war break out this was where they would seek shelter."
